The GAOWiki is a user-driven collaborative content platform for the internal use of analysts at the Government Accountability Office. It allows them to share specific domain expertise across the organization's divisional boundaries.
As the IT project manager, I was able to not only lead the successful technical integration, but working closely with the end users I made sure that the project was aimed squarely at addressing the needs of the staff. The most formidable challenge was gaining organizational acceptance and agreement among many stakeholders with sometimes competing interests. Our approach featured a careful balance of bottom-up, user-requirements driven implementation and director level championship. This strategy resulted in a succesful launch: with over 1,000 contributing users, a success that earned many awards for the project team.
